Commission paves way for local farm to apply for medical licensing
CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Commission on Tuesday evening approved Resolution 2022-61, authorizing the operation of medical cannabis dispensing sites within unincorporated areas of the county.
Joey Robertson from Wagon Trail Hemp Farm near Dodge City plans to move forward with applying to be one of five of the state’s integrated medical cannabis licensed facilities. Of those five facilities within the state, one must be awarded to a minority. On Sept. 1, 2022, the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission will begin accepting applications for licensing to be “an integrated facility or for a license as a cultivator processor, secure transporter, state testing laboratory or dispensary.”
Expecting to provide “no less than 30 good-paying jobs,” Robertson said he will also be utilizing off-duty law enforcement on the farm.
Speaking to the commissioners, resident Leonie Shaw took to the podium to discuss her concerns regarding the conditions on County Roads 151 and 154 in the Ryan’s Creek Baptist Church area. Shaw provided photographs and documentation on the state of the roads near her home which she attributes to heavy loads from trucking hauls along Smith Lake. County Engineer Bryan Cheatwood and Commissioner Garry Marchman addressed Shaw’s concerns and said they will be looking into solutions for the neighborhood.
Dr. Robert Smith of Sound Mind TMS Therapy presented information to the commission on transcranial magnetic stimulation. More information is available at www.cullmantribune.com/2022/04/26/sound-mind-tms-offers-cullman-new-solutions-in-mental-health-treatment.
In the public comments portion of the meeting, the commission’s policy of only allowing two residents to speak to one issue was disregarded, and many former Cullman Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) workers, dissatisfied with the work environment under director Joyce Echols, aired their grievances to the commission.
The commission recognized Good Hope students Breanna Arnold and Conner Clark for their accomplishments. The pair were named B.A.S.S. Nation High School Anglers of the Year earlier this summer.
Additionally, Nona Moon was honored for her 31 years of volunteer work at the Sportsman Lake Wildflower Garden.
