Tornos will feature a MultiSwiss 6x16 at IMTS 2022. Accommodating workpieces up to 16 mm dia. and 40 mm long, with 14 linear axes and seven C axes, the machine’s productivity can be boosted by the addition of one Y axis. This platform is based on an all-in-one concept, which combines single-spindle and multispindle turning.
According to the manufacturer, one machine can replace multiple single-spindle lathes while providing more production capacity and requiring less floor space and fewer operators.
The motorized barrel allows the machine to achieve the same production rates as cam-type machines, but with quieter operation, the company states. Features include a large door for front access, integrated peripherals, and simplified programming. The dynamic and independent spindles allow angular positioning and optimal speeds in each position. Each spindle has its own Z axis with hydrostatic bearings, enabling flawless finishes and tool life extended by 30 per cent to 40 per cent, according to the manufacturer.
