Fat Haco's heavy-duty, flat-bed lathe of the Tur SMN series is said to offer stability and high precision.
Together with its German representative, Volz Maschinenhandel, Poland-based machine manufacturer belonging to the Haco Group in Belgium will premiere the Tur SMN 930 at AMB.
According to Fat, the machine series now has a new mono-block, cast-iron bed. The special bed design with 3-V guideways is deep-induction hardened and ground. This special design and the fact that the machine is integrated behind the bed chip conveyor allows for good chip removal. Also, these optimisations improve the ergonomics of the machine operator. The SMN series is available in three sizes, namely, with 800, 950 or 1,100-mm swings over the bed diameter. The bed lengths can be custom-built to 1-m intervals, starting from two up to 16m. The headstock is a solid cast construction and the standard spindle has a bore Ø of 140mm. The drive is through a mechanical two-step gearbox, which achieves power of 33kW.

Various spindle options offered up to bore Øs of 450mm enable the efficient machining of pipes. For heavy-duty machining, a reinforced drive of 56kW with a torque of over 7,000 Nm is available.
All gears and shafts are hardened and precision-ground to achieve optimum smoothness and long life. For the machining of shafts and/or pipes, an additional spindle nose for mounting a second chuck is available at the back of the headstock. A reinforced tailstock with a quill diameter of 140 or 160 mm prevents vibrations during the turning of heavy workpieces of up to 7,000kg, Fat explains.
All Fat machines are manufactured to customer requirements. Additonal options include steady or follow rests, special clamping devices and tool systems suited to the production profile, while various tool turrets with or without driven tool stations are particularly in demand. All components installed in the machines are from manufacturers such as Siemens, Schneeberger, Sauter etc.
The model on exhibit will be 4m, equipped with the latest Siemens 840D-SL controller and a Sauter tool turret.
The company will be in Hall 4, Booth A57.
